A Pretty Girls Guide to the New York Sirens
because sometimes your team isn’t winning yet… but the story is too good to ignore
There’s a certain type of team you don’t pick because they’re dominant, rather you pick them because they’re interesting, because there’s potential, chaos. Because there’s something about them that makes you feel like if you stay long enough, you’re going to witness a glow-up. That’s the New York Sirens.
If you’re the kind of girl who loves a team before they become that team, who sees the vision early and sticks around for the transformation, this is your pick.
So… Who Are the New York Sirens?
City: Newark (New York metro energy)
Home Arena: Prudential Center
Colors: turquoise, navy, white, orange
Founded: 2023
The Sirens are one of the PWHL’s original teams, but unlike some of the others, they’re still in their building era. While the team doesn't have a championship yet, nor a playoff run, they are full of raw potential and are simply just a team figuring itself out.
The Vibe Check
The New York Sirens are chaotic, unpredictable, and full of potential. They’re the team that has flashes of brilliance, pulls off random big moments, and then leaves you like… "wait, where did that come from?" They literally won the first game in PWHL history and then had a season that didn’t fully come together. That contrast is truly this teams vibe. Very much unfinished story, high highs, low lows, and “this could turn into something insane”.
The Aesthetic
The Sirens are loud in the best way. Think bright turquoise, bold navy, and unexpected orange accents. Their name comes from New York’s “vibrant sights and sounds"!
The Girls You Need to Know
(aka your reasons to stay)
✧ Micah Zandee-Hart (Captain)
Steady, composed, and leading a team that’s still finding itself. Captain during a rebuild? That’s real leadership.
✧ Sarah Fillier
First overall pick energy. She already won Rookie of the Year and was a scoring leader. Future superstar, no question.
✧ Casey O’Brien
Quietly essential and very much a “if you know, you know” player. She’s right behind Fillier in points, leads the team in assists, and brings that playmaker energy every good team needs.
✧ Kristýna Kaltounková
A goal-scorer with instant impact energy. She’s played fewer games than most of the roster but is still one of the team’s top producers, which basically means when she’s on the ice, things happen.
The Lore (and Why It Matters)
The Sirens are very much in their early chapter. They played in the league’s first-ever game, set attendance records (a little Madison Square Garden moment), landed top draft picks, but still haven’t made playoffs yet. They’re not behind, they’re building, and historically, teams like this either stay mid or suddenly figure it out and become a problem.
Why You Should Pick Them
Pick the New York Sirens if you love potential and growth arcs, want to be early before a team blows up, enjoy a little chaos and unpredictability, and are okay with the ups and downs (because the payoff could be big). This is not the safe pick, it is the visionary pick. The New York Sirens aren’t finished yet and that’s exactly what makes them interesting. Because one day, they’re going to click and when they do? You’ll be able to say you were there before it happened.

As a Sirens fan I spent this season getting progressively more delusional, enough to finally go “yeah, I mean at least they are in the lead for one stat” and it’s PIM 🥀 weewoo 🚨🥲
